Summer 2016
Summer 2016

Editor’s Note

I’ve never been anywhere quite like Chicago in the summer. The city just comes alive. Street fests pop up in every neighborhood. Tourists flood the Loop. Families take to the beach to enjoy Lake Michigan. All of us at the Illinois College of Optometry try to find more time outside. Given Chicago’s winters, summer always feels oh-so-sweet.

Other cities try to emulate ICO’s summer style, but none quite hit it- not even the nearby suburbs. This issue of ICO Matters highlights Chicago, and then compares it to places around the world.

  • In Talking Heads, ICO alumni discuss why they loved becoming doctors in the Windy City.
  • We follow two sisters whose practice spans multiple Chicago locations in Close Up.
  • In Essentials, a faculty member holds up Chicago’s health care next to that of a foreign country.
  • Features on Commencement, our upcoming brand campaign, and improved curriculum celebrate the vital differences that push ICO above other schools of optometry.

I hope this issue of ICO Matters reminds you of life at your alma mater. Try to read this issue outside, if you can! If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, please e-mail communications@ico.edu. …and don’t forget your sunscreen.
