The Illinois College of Optometry welcomed two new members to its Board of Trustees in February. Both are ICO alumni: Jeffrey Johnson, OD ’97, and Robert Steinmetz, OD ’03. Though they chose different paths after graduation, each has gone on to do remarkable things in optometry.
Dr. Johnson completed a residency before choosing a prestigious hospital-based practice on the East Coast. He eventually returned to Illinois to pursue an MBA at Northwestern. Dr. Johnson later left optometric practice entirely, and has since risen to the status of top healthcare financial analyst for Baird. He now travels the world, evaluating the latest trends in healthcare along the way.
Dr. Steinmetz stayed in the Chicago area post-ICO. He started multiple practice locations, first in the suburbs, then in the South Loop. Dr. Steinmetz has remained a leader in the profession in Illinois. His latest achievement is a new business offering startup and practice management advice to budding ODs.
Coincidentally, Drs. Johnson and Steinmetz both held the title of Student Association President during their respective times at ICO. They now get to be leaders and influencers, side by side. Congratulations, gentlemen.
