What started as a test is now a permanent fixture in ICO’s curriculum. The Accelerated Clinical Program has returned for its second year. The program’s initial run was well-received by participants, and promises to be even more worthwhile in 2016.
To qualify for the ACP, students must apply after performing well in their first year. Through coursework, independent study, and laboratory, ACP students earn extra experience over the summer. These individuals gain additional patient encounters, complete their second year requirements early, and are offered third year access to specialty rotations.
Ten individuals were selected for the 2016 Accelerated Clinical Program. This number could increase in future iterations. We are excited to see how these students perform over their 4 years at ICO. Graduating optometrists with this level of patient care experience will only bolster ICO’s reputation for clinical excellence.
